Who am I?

I’m Sonya Barbee, an artist/designer who focuses on sustainable practices, food and fashion. I believe that we all can alter our lifestyles in a way that can improve the planet we live on with compassion, understanding, and creativity.

I make new things with materials that I find as a creative outlet. Although I’m not a minimalist, I am practical and don’t believe excessive spending equals status.

I’m not a great gardener but I try to grow my food. I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life but it’s a personal choice and my views are not excessive.

I have always felt that the world would be a better place if we could take the time to stop and consider how our actions effect the lives of others.

Why Remnants?

As a designer my work was created using things that I found or came across during my day. One of the things I created was a collection of greeting cards from fabric remnants. Later I used remnants to make one of a kind teddy bears. This has now evolved to clothing upcycles and art pieces. Remnants are scraps and I love how a small scrap of fabric, paper, wood, etc can be given new life and make people smile. I’d like this online zine to be a place where like minded people come together to share and exchange ideas with an open mind and an open heart.Buy me a cup of coffee and also take some time to visit my website, YardGirl Creations.
